Our Story

Discover how we started and what drives us

Native Flora Seeds began with a simple mission: Get Seeds in the
Ground. Under the involvement and leadership of Jim Carras, that mission has
evolved from making native plant seeds more accessible into a broader national
effort to restore habitat, support biodiversity, and help communities take
meaningful local action. Today, our work extends beyond seed sales to include
community planting grants, educational resources, fundraising programs, and the
Native Plant Community Advocate Program—a growing network of trained volunteers
who will help bring native habitat projects to life in communities across the
country. As we have grown, our purpose has become even clearer: to make native
plant restoration practical, visible, and achievable for schools,
neighborhoods, nonprofits, local organizations, and everyday people who want to
be part of the solution.

Through this program, Native Flora Seeds has the opportunity to
become one of the leading nonprofit forces for native plant habitat restoration
in the country by equipping local advocates with the tools, training, and
support to turn community passion into measurable habitat impact.

Seed In The Ground Donation Campaign

Restoration starts with you. Our Seeds in the Ground campaign turns every dollar into real planting projects, expanding seed programs, supporting volunteers, and connecting more gardens to the Homegrown National Park map. We're working toward our goal of rehabilitating 1 million acres of idle farmland and public land across America. Every gift helps biodiversity bloom.

NFS Grants Program

Our Community Grant Program funds real, community-based projects that use native plants to restore land and support pollinators. Grants include tailored native seed packages plus micro grants of $500 to $2,500 for materials and site prep. We've already donated over $20,000 to conservation efforts, including Homegrown National Park, the Hideaway HOA dog park garden, and Historic Hubbard Cemetery. Fall Cycle applications open September 2026.
